Check your local codes, but the basic requirements are (1) adequate gauge wire and breaker, (2) gfci protection on the circuit, and (3) special underground wire or conduit. you can run your wire underground in sealed pvc conduit or you can use type uf underground cable, as long as the wire is protected with conduit wherever it is exposed..
