Here are some of my favorite plants for a shady porch. hosta. yes, i know, most people plant hosta in the ground, where it comes back year after year. but a single hosta plant will grow quite well in a container, and this plant thrives in the shade. tuck a little moss around the base of the plant for a finished look.. This is an interesting plant. it is a perennial so you should only have to plant it once. but it isn’t extremely colorful by any means. however, it looks like a little pom-pom made of grass. so if you are looking for something to add a finishing touch to a shaded area without adding a rainbow of color then this is a good option..
